Claudia's Shine Walk for Cancer Research UK

We've all heard of someone who has sadly died because of cancer and wanted to do our bit whilst getting fitter and walking more at the same time.

I managed to secure a donation towards my fundraising target from NEXT'S Charities department which has made me feel more confident that I'll be able to meet my target of £100.

I'll be walking in memory of my late husband Steve and my dear friend Rachel.

Amanda's Hike for Macmillan

As with most families I have been affected by cancer.  My grandfather passed away some years ago and we always try to raise some money in his name on a yearly basis and we always choose to support Macmillan as they had such a positive influence on not just him but the whole family in his last months.

They took him on away days so that the family could have some down time as during his last 6 months he needed 24/7 care.  He particularly liked the fashion show trip, something he'd never experienced before. Macmillan also helped with financial advice.

Mike's Bike Ride for Thomas's Fund

Mike Ives embarked on an EXTREMELY long tandem bike ride (1027 miles to be precise) to raise funds for a charity that is immensely close to his heart and a very worthy cause - Thomas's Fund. The full backstory, learning exactly why Mike has been an absolute hero for his friends, is linked below where you can also donate.

'A target of £10 per mile - which would have been £10,270 had there not been some detours due to road closures on Day 1 that added to the distance. In the end though, the publicity we generated en route seems to have garnered a lot of interest and our total so far is far beyond certainly my expectations.'

Steph's Hike for Macmillan

Macmillan has been a font of knowledge and a fantastic means of support from my initial diagnosis and throughout my treatment for cancer.  They are such an amazing charity that I wanted to give something back. Our initial Team Target was £3000 but thanks to donations from friends, colleagues and family we raised SO much more! Click here to see how much Steph and co raised

Helen's Bike Ride for Loros

Helen had originally planned to join the Leicester to Skegness 100 mile bike ride for LOROS.  Sadly this race like so many others was cancelled due to covid.

On the 26th June Helen set out alone to ride 116 miles from Leicester to Saltfleet.  She set off with her  puncture and tyre kit, spare inner tube, trusty Garmin, sandwiches and homemade flapjack. She had lots of support from her colleagues whose messages of encouragement kept her going.

She stopped for sandwiches in an idyllic spot on a disused railway line when the Red Arrows put on a display overhead.  'It was truly incredible' Helen said.  I'd told Charities what I was doing and they were able to give me a donation as LOROS is a registered charity.  I'm really grateful to have completed the ride.  I didn't feel lonely riding solo as there were so many people to say hello to.'

Claire's Hike for Macmillan

I was asked by my friend Claudia to join her on a charity walk - 26 miles along the Jurassic coastline in aid of Macmillan - Claudia's husband Steve had a brain tumour and he was not expected to live beyond 14 months from diagnosis in January 2017 so the walk meant so much.

It was called the Mighty Hike, and gosh was it mighty - even brutal.  A group of us (including Steve) conquered the challenge on 30th June 2018 on what was his 55th birthday in 28 degrees.

Next were amazing and sponsored myself and Claudia as a former employee with Next for over 20 years - who left the business to become a carer for Steve.

Steve passed away sadly, in May 2019 but the walk is a great memory and legacy of his passion for life.
